God this car is mediocre in non-twin-turbo trim. FWD with similar power and far less torque than the Murdersofa, as evidenced by how I utterly demolished my boss in one at a red light. The seats are awesome, though. The drivers seat has motorized bolsters that will hug you to death and it’s fantastic. Also the A/C has been filled with propane instead of freon and it will cool the air so much that it’s almost painful. Styling is pretty cool, though there are obscene amounts of plastic on these cars. Also it was matte black. Murderbishi.

3kGTs are neat, but they are also a collection of technologies you don’t want in an late 90s/00s car, even if it was built in Japan.

A friend had an SL in high school. With the 5 speed it wasn’t bad. I knew a girl who had a pearl white base automatic model and it was sssssllllloooooowwwwww.

3500 lbs, with a 164hp sohc 3-liter and that minivan-tuned 4speed auto. Ugh.

Was your boss’ the base model? Because that would explain it. The SL had the twin cam engine with 220hp/200tq.

Which is the problem. Propane is a million times better at cooling than freon, but “pressurized system of propane” sketches people out, and a system failure could be pretty damn bad.

Nah. This was an automatic SL.

I did the Propane conversion when I had my 1979 Cherokee. I did have a hose rupture on the High side one day. No big fireball of doom, just a smelly fog for a few seconds and it dissipated.

It is a seriously good refrigerant.

I agree on the Non R/T and VR4 3000gt. It really didn’t have the go to back the show.

Yeah, this was a middle-of-the-road SL model automatic. It was a bit worn out but the cat delete (stolen) is worth at least 500hp. And the Buick was running on regular gas instead of the midgrade or premium it requires, so that was holding it back a bit. And the skinny 225r16s.

My boss had a VR4 in high school and I am so jealous. I would love to have one for a month or so, because I certainly don’t want to have to fix things with it.

Well there’s his mistake... Buying an automatic sports car. The automatic versions of most older cars were much slower than the manual versions. My dad had a five speed sl and it was quick (not vr4 quick obviously). It also had awd... Not sure if you are mistaken or if the auto version was fwd only, but I’ve never heard of a fwd 3000.

Also it was going to be my first car, but do to some unfortunate events... My dad sold the 3000 just before I got my temps. I was bummed out ;(

The only AWD 3000GT was the VR-4. The base and the SL were FWD-only, no matter the year, no matter the transmission. Unless your dad or the previous owner spent a ridiculous amount of time and money on a conversion, it was FWD.

It appears you are correct. I will retract my previous statement (if I can). I always thought they were all awd. I am correct in saying that all Mitsubishi GTOs (Japan) are awd, though. Japan always brought stupid versions of cars to the U.S.... Turns out the 3000gt base and sl were just two more of them.

Was yours the York style compressor or the Sanden Style?

I’m thinking about doing this to some of my vehicles

It was the York Piston type.

Ok cool. I’ll look up how to convert it.
